Tiago Dias dos Santos

My name is Tiago, and I’m a BA in Audiovisual Communication Technology by ESMAE, in Porto, with a specialisation in Photography at the Karel de Grote-Hogeschool in Antwerp. I’m also a MA in Multimedia — Culture and Arts branch, by FEUP, also in Porto.

I’ve participated in different courses or interchanges, like the ‘Screened Memories: Historical Narratives and Contemporary Visual Culture’ summer course at the CEU (Budapest), in 2016; the Advanced Course on Urban Ethnography at FLUP (Porto), in 2017; or, last year, International Summer School of Photography, in Latvia.

Professionally, I’m experienced in Audiovisual Production and Cultural and Education Program Management. I’ve developed several audiovisual projects — tiagodsantos.com — and worked in several cultural projects like Binaural/Nodar (cultural institution), Encontros da Imagem (photography festival) or QueerPorto (film festival). From 2014 to the end of 2018, I coordinated Porto/Post/Doc Film & Media Festival’s Education Program, working with students, in a project that intended do improve film literacy and create new audiences, and where I ended up discovering the possibilites that this kind of engagement had in people. In that sense, I started to collaborate with CitaDocs, a collective that uses audiovisual narratives made by, for and about citizens, as a record of communities historically rooted in the city of Porto. Their methodology of short workshops and active citizen participation are directly connected to subjects that interest me nowadays.

Documentary, citizen journalism, audiovisual tools on ethnography and anthropology and storytelling are keywords in my work and research and tools to engage and promote participation by different kinds of people, regardless of training or background. This allows not only new possibilites in the way people can interact in society, help them better connect with the art world or and add value to their lives — points to be worked on in the Reshape project.
