Vienna based artist and curator Klaus Schafler studied art at Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, economics at University Graz and political science at Facolta di Scienze Politiche Messina. His art-based research and projects mainly refer to the notion of public sphere and to phenomena of transition in different geo-political frameworks, sub-urban and rural settings by working in various formats including site-specific installations, performative interventions in public space, and staged lectures. He was also co-curator of artist-collective K.U.L.M. with projects in the Austrian countryside including collaborations with the festival steirischer herbst.
Currently, he is also co-running Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna, where we try to develop new formats for experimental presentations, interdisciplinary collaborations and an artist-in-residence programme.
